the seed

Nobody said it would be easy but nobody said it would be hard
Hidden behind the mediocrity that we are forced to accept
Under the weight of restriction and the exhaust of thematic demise
Who are we and why are you here?

Growing up unknown even to myself
Retreaded ambition retarded growth
Fighting up from the dirt to see the light
Drinking in the light of spring
Clearing the mud from my eyes

Standing on broken legs arms to the sun
Born today standing up
Yesterday I lay tomorrow I’ll crawl
Running from a past that wasn’t mine

Did what we were told never questioned it
Now we rise
Now we take it back
Now we become what we were always supposed to be

No longer smothered into the darkness
Tired of being polite for the sake of face
Mud in my eyes water in my ears
Rise above

No more prone fetal
No more bound hands
Too long told how to live by those who we give
Out of the dirt and into the light
